World first love marriage
As far as famous love stories are concerned, the names that come to mind the most are:- Laila-Majnu, Heer-Ranjha, Salim-Anarkali, Shahjahan-Mumtaz, Bajirao-Mastani, Shiri-Farhad etc. But there is also a love story which is probably the oldest in the world and many people would know about it but they would not know this. This is the love story of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati.
According to religious beliefs, things related to the marriage of Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati are found in all the Puranas. First of all Lord Shankar was married to Mother Sati. Sati’s father Daksh did not want to marry, but on the advice of father Brahma, King Daksh married his daughter Sati to Lord Shankar. Due to his dislike for Lord Shankar, King Daksh once insulted Lord Shankar by not inviting him to the Yagya. Due to which Mother Sati, being sad and angry, committed suicide by jumping into the Yagya.
After this incident, Lord Shiva, in the form of Rudra, beheaded King Daksh. The separation from Sati filled the mind of Lord Shiva with a feeling of detachment and he became engrossed in severe penance.
On the other hand, Mother Sati was born in the form of Mother Parvati in the place of mountain king Himalaya. During that time there was terror of the demon Tarakasura. Tarakasura had received a boon from Lord Brahma that no one except the son of Lord Shiva could kill him. But Lord Shiva was engrossed in penance and it was necessary for his son to get married to Lord Shiva.
On the other hand, Mother Parvati started penance for mahadev to get him back. All the gods also wanted that Shiva should be married to Parvati. For which all the gods planned the marriage of Lord Shiva and sent Kamadeva to break the penance of mahadev. Kamadeva broke Shiva’s penance, but Lord Shiva in anger destroyed him with his third eye.
Now Parvati had decided that she would marry only mahadev. Mother Parvati started very rigorous penance to make Shiva her groom. Due to his penance there was uproar everywhere. The foundations of big mountains started to waver. Seeing this, Bhole Baba opened his eyes and called upon Parvati to marry a rich prince.
Shiva also emphasized that it is not easy to live with an ascetic. But Mother Parvati was adamant, she had made it clear that she would marry only Lord Shiva. Now seeing this stubbornness of Parvati, mahadev melted and after many requests of all the gods, Lord Shiva agreed to marry Mother Parvati.
When Lord Shiva reached the place of Mother Parvati with a wedding procession, in this procession all kinds of people, people, demons, devils, deities, animals, insects, spiders, ghosts, vampires and crazy people became the procession and reached the place of Mother Parvati. Seeing such a procession, Goddess Parvati’s mother got scared and refused to hand over her daughter’s hand to Lord Shiva. Mother Parvati saw that the situation was worsening so she requested Lord Shiva to come prepared as per our customs.
After that, after bathing Lord Shiva with divine water and dressing him with flowers, he took him to Mother Parvati. When Lord Shiva arrived in divine form, Parvati’s mother immediately accepted him and the marriage ceremony began in the presence of Lord Brahma. Mother Parvati and Bhole Baba garlanded each other and the marriage was completed.
The marriage of Shiva and Mother Parvati was not a normal marriage. Shiv Vivah is a true story of love, dedication and perseverance. Even the world’s biggest love story fails in front of this love story.
According to religious beliefs, the day when Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati got married, that day is celebrated as the festival of Mahashivratri and the place where Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati got married is today a village in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. Known as Triryugi Narayan.
